Clinic Overview: The Center for Men’s Excellence is a San Diego-based mental health clinic centrally located in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego. We offer a variety of services including individual, couples, family, child and group psychotherapy along with organizational consultation services. While we have a unique focus on men and fathers, our therapists have expertise in working with all ages and genders

Position Overview: The Staff Therapist conducts initial evaluations, provides provisional diagnoses, and engages in structured, evidence-based psychotherapy with clients.

Individual, couples, family, and group-format therapy sessions are common modalities, and the position involves working in a vibrant, growing group practice which includes a unique focus on men’s issues as they relate to men themselves as well as their friends and loved ones. While having training in working with men and boys is a plus for applicants, the reality is that most therapists working with males have not had this type of formal learning. For this reason, taking part in regular consultation with our team to learn best practices in the psychology of masculinities and men's issues is an ongoing aspect of our team's professional development.

Our approach involves the therapist being able to quickly develop a solid working relationship with clients while formulating a working case conceptualization early in the therapy process. The therapist should be able to clearly communicate to clients a concrete provisional treatment plan which reflects a roadmap of clinical goals intended to manage the client’s presenting concerns.

We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience with EMDR as well as children and families.
