Couples Counseling Techniques
Our psychologists employ research-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in order to give patients concrete tools and strategies to gain a deeper understanding of how they can improve their relationships in an ongoing way. Treatment goals in couples therapy are developed collaboratively during initial evaluation sessions, and our therapist's treat the relationship – rather than the individuals themselves – as the “patient.” Counseling involves addressing how the individuals in the couple function as individuals, as partners, and in the broader social/environmental context in order to gain a clearer understanding of how to thrive in their relationship
