Dr. Jones has extensive experience conducting pschotherapy, training and consultation around adult, teen and group therapy formats. At the Center for Men’s Excellence, he provides counseling for adults, couples, and teens aged 13 and up. He also offers group therapy with men & has special expertise working with men and couples before and after the birth of a baby, making him an excellent choice if you are looking for a perinatal therapist.
Dr. Jones has an empathetic, calm demeanor that helps clients quickly feel at ease. His approach to clinical work begins with first getting to know the patient and making them comfortable as they explore their areas of concern. Dr. Jones then determines which clinical approach is the best fit for both their particular challenges and their personality.
Over time, Dr. Jones works with the client to gain insight and try new skills to help them manage their issues more effectively.
Common areas of concern for Dr. Jones’ patients include stress and anxiety, relationship difficulties, work-life balance, phase of life changes, reproductive/perinatal therapy and mental health, teen development, and depression. His background as a musician along with his extensive travel and dedication to cultural and spiritual exploration all inform his perspective as well as his intuitive attunement with his clients.
He blends a variety of well-researched, evidence-based modalities in psychotherapy including mindfulness-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral exposure, motivational enhancement, as well as interpersonal (IPT) work based on the specific needs of clients. Dr. Jones is very skilled at meeting clients where they are and clarifying a structured treatment plan that gives them tools to handle issues more effectively while also leveraging their strengths to thrive.
Dr. Jones’ research focuses on the experiences that fathers have when their babies require a stay in a neonatal intensive unit (NICU), which gives him particular insight into men’s perinatal mental health. He received his Psy.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology. He completed his predoctoral internship at San Diego’s Sharp Mesa Vista psychiatric hospital and is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Men’s Excellence supervised by CME founder, Dr. Singley (CA license PSY20995).
