Dr. Maxwell Maris

Dr. Maris received his doctorate in psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego upon the completion of his APA-accredited internship at Sharp Healthcare.

He received his Master’s degree in clinical psychology in 2020, and comes to the field of psychology with over seven years of experience as a United States Navy diver and supervisor. His doctoral research focused on the role of time, resilience, and social support on how non-combat military personnel readjust after deployment.

Dr. Maris has considerable experience with adults, veterans, adolescents, seniors, risk assessment, as well as working with patients who have severe mental illness, trauma, and substance use disorders. He is very adept at forming solid working relationships in both short-term and long-term psychotherapy treatment in order to assist patients in developing the tools, awareness, and strengths they need to overcome areas of difficulty including a range of men’s issues, anxiety, depression, substance use, relationship concerns, trauma, and phase of life issues.

Dr. Maris’ strong background in using well-researched mindfulness skills in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral exposure for anxiety allows him to work effectively with diverse patients who present with a variety of concerns. In his free time, Max attempts to play golf, cooks delicious meals, reads comic books, plays video games, and finds any activity where he can enjoy the sunshine. 

Dr. Maris is post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Men’s Excellence supervised by Dr. Singley (CA license PSY20995).
